District Tank is part of Dera Ismail Khan Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan, consisting of 16 Union Councils. Tank is the capital city of the district, comprised of Union Council City I and Union Council City II. Until 1992 Tank was a tehsil of District Dera Ismail Khan before upgrading into a separate district. To its northeast is situated district Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan to its east, South Waziristan Tribal District (SWTD) to the west. The climate of District Tank is dry and hot with average temperate of 10 -30°C. Average rainfall in District Tank is about 1000 mm. Tank has a total area of 1679 sq. kms with a population size of 391,885 which comprises of 51% (approx.) male and 49% female Geographically Tank is located on the pleatu at the feet of Suleman Mountains Range and is a gateway to the erstwhile FATA (South Waziristan).
Government of Pakistan, under Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) has included the project entitled “Establishment of Sub-Campus of Public Sector Universities at District Level” with tentative cost of Rs. 5610.093 million in 2016-2017. To meet the educational needs of the locality with a vast population, Sub Campus Gomal University Tank was established in 2017 as per above mentioned program. Objective of the campus was to provide equal opportunity to the students of the area to acquire higher education in a conducive environment and hence to empower them to play their role in the enlightenment of society.
Sub Campus Gomal University Tank is more important due to its location and the adjacent newly established south and north districts, where special efforts are required to provide higher education to the deprived at their door steps. Main objective of the project is to establish too a sub campus of public sector universities in the districts which are without having such facility in past, whether a university of public or private sector..
