Department of Zoology

Zoology (also known as animal science) is the branch of biology devoted to the study of animal life. It covers areas ranging from the structure of organisms to the subcellular unit of life. Some zoologists are interested in the biology of particular groups of animals. Others are concerned with the structure and function of animal bodies. Still others study how new animals are formed and how their characteristics are passed on from one generation to another. Zoologists study the interactions of animals with one another and their environments, as well as the significance of the behavior of animals.

The Department of Zoology, a discipline of natural sciences, meets the need of training persons in a vast basic and interdisciplinary framework concerning Animal Sciences. The Department has recently started a BS program (4 years) in Zoology for academic excellence and prominence in various fields of research like Molecular Biology, Physiology, Endocrinology, Environmental Biology, Developmental Biology, etc. A Zoology graduate after BS has a diverse experience and competence to serve or learn further in education, health, agriculture, industry and environment sectors. The Department has one of the most highly trained Faculty of Zoology and syllabi are updated and audio visual aids are used to improve teaching. The purchase of new equipments to establish a laboratory for the current needs of the program in Animal Sciences is under process.

Why study Zoology?

Job Opportunities

A Zoology graduate can join and further excel in diverse professions. The graduates have options to adopt the following professions:
a) Teaching: Teaching in Universities/Colleges/Higher Secondary Schools.
b) Research: Researchers at numerous public/private sector research organizations such as Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, life sciences based institutes of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission etc.
c) Researchers-cum-administrator: In public/private sector such as Provincial Fisheries Departments, Health Departments, Livestock Departments and Pest Control industry etc.

Students seeking for admissions in BS Zoology must satisfy the following conditions:

F.Sc. Pre-Medical & Pre-Engineering or Equivalent with minimum 50% marks.
